About My Work
“Although my painting may look realistic, it is entirely imagined. Rather than reproducing what I see, I tend to paint and erase until something recognizable and believable appears.”
In my work I mainly use water-based paints and pigments to achieve matte finishes. Through glazes and washes I obtain the transparency, lightness and depth that characterize my work.
Large canvases, wooden panels and paintings are made in my studio in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and shipped to their recipients properly packaged.
Murals are usually painted directly in the place for which they were conceived. I try to keep them from being too striking, so they don't tire over time and one can always live alongside them.
About the Artist
Jorge Estévez began his training at the Universidad de Chile and completed it at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. Over more than three decades he has developed his work between Chile and Spain.
He doesn't imitate nature; he imagines it. He paints jungles, forests and immense trees that exist only in his mind, with the moon and the night at the centre of his sensibility.
